Phoenix Safe Company, one of the UK’s oldest manufacturers of safes and security products, can trace its roots back to Liverpool in 1799. As their retained marketing agency, we’ve had the pleasure of providing them with a full range of marketing and creative services. Our latest project involved a challenging yet rewarding product photography shoot for their newly updated range of safes. These images were destined for their website and corporate brochure, and our goal was to capture the essence of each product, showcasing not only their product features but also the typical contents and scale of these huge items.
Ensuring a consistent perspective across all images was critical, as we needed the final shots to align perfectly when displayed together in brochures or online.
Given the size and weight of these safes this shoot required us to work on location at the Phoenix Safe offices in Bootle, Liverpool. The logistics were tricky, but with careful planning and a bit of muscle, we managed to set up and shoot over two days.
Upon arriving at the site, we were treated to some behind-the-scenes tales of how the warehouse had been used as a filming location for “51st State” starring Samuel L. Jackson. The remnants of the film crew’s pyrotechnics, including blood splatters on the ceiling, were still visible. This fun diversion continued with stories of Phoenix Safes making appearances in popular TV shows like EastEnders and Spooks, and even in a Tom Cruise film.
But back to business. This wasn’t our usual studio setup, so some rearranging was in order. We had to account for the various sizes of safes, adjusting the camera height and angles accordingly. Our pre-shoot visit to the site proved invaluable, as it allowed us to plan out the equipment and layout in advance, ensuring everything ran smoothly on the day.
In the end, the project was a great success. Phoenix Safe was thrilled with the results and requested us to produce a series of product videos later on. We delivered a comprehensive set of high and low-resolution images, ready to be used in all future marketing materials, on their website, and distributed to their global network of distributors and retailers. Another successful project in the books, and we’re already looking forward to the next one!
