Studiowide recently had the opportunity to provide on-location video production services for Project7 Consultancy, capturing a case study for none other than London Underground. For context, London Underground is a massive operation – with 11 lines and roughly 4.8 million passengers per day, adding up to a whopping 1.34 billion passengers annually!
Project7 wanted to highlight the impressive performance improvements they’d facilitated at London Underground through an internal development programme.
Our mission? Film staff testimonials and document their key set of morning meetings to showcase just how critical their Daily Control System is in the smooth operation of such a vast network.
On the morning of the shoot, we kicked off with a quick tour of the location. This allowed us to check out where the meetings would take place and map out a plan of action. Filming a real meeting in progress meant we needed to be prepared well ahead of time – there’d be no room to pause the action. We had to be as discreet as possible, filming without disrupting the flow of discussions, which were highly dynamic with staff moving around between different planning boards.
When it came to interviews, we had to move quickly. Often, we’d have just 10 minutes per staff member – enough time for a quick intro, mic set-up, and interview. Working in such a fast-paced environment is second nature to us, especially since we’ve filmed similar morning meetings for other large organisations. In preparation, we’d already set up the lead speakers with lavalier microphones to capture clear audio as they directed the meetings.
The layout of the planning boards was something we’d also prepped for, so we’d plotted the ideal path for our two cameras. We needed to avoid crossing into each other’s shots and, most importantly, ensure a perfect line of sight for the main speaker at all times. The goal was to be invisible but still capture every essential moment.
Given the tight timeline, we managed to film everything in one morning, carefully aligning the schedule to work around the staff’s availability and the time-sensitive meetings. We were mindful not to interrupt the natural flow of the day, ensuring that our presence didn’t impact their regular operations.
The client appreciated our flexibility, noting how seamlessly we worked around their team’s availability. There was no downtime, and we kept everything running smoothly, from the testimonials to the meeting coverage.
In the end, the video was a great success. Project7 was thrilled with the final result, and the project led to us being invited back for more video shoots.
