We’re thrilled to announce our latest project: creating an online hub for the Northwest Teenage & Young Adults Cancer Clinical Network. This new portal will serve as a resourceful guide, bringing together vital information and tools to help teenagers and young adults access the right care at the right time, in the right place.
For young people receiving cancer treatment, principal treatment centres (PTCs) are specialised facilities providing expert care specifically for teenage and young adult (TYA) cancer. The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is the designated PTC in the North West, renowned for its specialised approach. For those eligible to receive treatment closer to home, a network of local hospitals works closely with the PTC, allowing for continuity of high-quality, age-specific care.
An essential part of this network is the TYA outreach team, a group of clinical nurse specialists, youth workers, and social workers. They offer dedicated, age-appropriate support for young people and their families through diagnosis and treatment. By working alongside local medical teams, the outreach team ensures continuity of care, providing guidance in hospital and at home, as well as connecting young people to peer support networks.
Through this new online portal, we aim to enhance access to this invaluable support system across Greater Manchester, North Cheshire, Lancashire, and South Cumbria, promoting both quality of care and operational consistency.
Stay tuned – we’re excited to share updates as this important project develops.
